Low Carbon Shim Stock

Low-carbon mild steel shim stock is cold-rolled to a minimum hardness of 165VPN, making it ideal for shims, washers, and gaskets, as well as drawing or forming. Due to its low carbon content, it cannot be heat-treated for significant hardening but can be case-hardened for a tougher surface. Additionally, we offer 316 stainless steel shim kits, brass shim sheets, 304 stainless steel pre-cut shims, and other versatile shim kits. Be sure to check out our full range of shim products.

Mild Steel FAQs

Mild steel shim stock is a thin, flat material used for shimming, adjusting or aligning components in machinery and equipment.

Mild steel shim stock is versatile and commonly used in mechanical and industrial applications, including:

  • Machinery Alignment: Fills gaps and aligns components to reduce wear and ensure proper function.
  • Automotive Repairs: Adjusts and aligns parts in engines and transmissions.
  • Precision Engineering: Achieves exact tolerances in mechanical assemblies.
  • Construction & Fabrication: Levels and aligns parts in construction and metalwork projects.
  • Maintenance & Repair: Corrects alignment issues and maintains equipment operation.

Standard sizes for mild steel shim stock come in various thicknesses, widths and lengths. You can find the exact dimensions above. We also offer custom shims to fit your desired requirements.

Mild steel shim stock is not recommended for outdoor use due to its susceptibility to rust and corrosion when exposed to moisture. For applications in harsh conditions or high humidity, 316 stainless steel shims offer superior corrosion resistance and durability.
