316 Stainless Steel Shim: Ideal for use as steel packing shims, gastkets and more

316 stainless steel shim has an advantage over 304 stainless steel in chemical, petrochemical, food and marine applications and is ideal for gaskets, shims, bursting discs, expansion joints etc. 316 stainless steel is an austenitic grade that has excellent ductility, toughness and corrosion resistance with good strength. The presence of molybdenum gives 316 stainless steel better overall corrosion resistant properties than grade 304. 316 stainless steel is also ideal for use as metal packers, metal packing shims and can also be used in some spring applications

316 Stainless Steel Shim FAQs

They are used in industries like marine, chemical processing, oil and gas, and food production due to their durability. Additionally, they are ideal for any industry requiring high-performance materials in aggressive environments.

Applications include machinery alignment, spacing in construction, and precision adjustments in equipment assemblies. They are also essential for gaskets, sealing, and insulation in both small and large-scale operations.

Key benefits include exceptional corrosion resistance, durability, and suitability for high-temperature and marine applications. This makes them a reliable choice for long-term use in extreme conditions without compromising structural integrity.

316 stainless steel offers better corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides, making it more suitable for harsh environments compared to 304. Additionally, 316 steel shims offer superior resistance to rust.

The addition of molybdenum enhances resistance to chloride and acidic environments, making it highly resistant to rust and pitting. This chemical composition allows 316 stainless steel to withstand environments where other metals would deteriorate quickly.

To determine thickness, consider the gap or misalignment you need to fill and the load-bearing requirements of your application. If you need any assistance in determining the ideal thickness for your specific application, get in touch with our team on 02 4646 1166. We’ll help you to find the correct specifications for your particular machinery or project to ensure proper fitting and performance.
